Terrain will work directly with 40 landholders who manage more than 160,000 ha of grazing land to improve land management and reduce erosion.

The $3 million Herbert River Catchment and Gully Remediation project is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust Phase IV Gully and Stream Bank Erosion Control Program.

It is part of a coordinated State and Federal effort to improve water quality through reducing sediment run-off flowing to the Reef. Sediment smothers seagrass and coral, and carries nutrients which cause outbreaks of the coral-eating crown of thorns starfish.

Terrain will support landholders in the Lower and Upper Herbert regions to adopt improved land management practices and reduce erosion through the rehabilitation and remediation of priority degraded areas. The project will run until June 2020.
