Terrain NRM is looking for an emerging leader to advise its board of directors on building stronger links with young people in the Wet Tropics community.

The natural resource organisation has created a one-year mentoring program and launched its recruitment drive this week. Terrain’s board is looking for an individual who is passionate about the sustainable use of natural resources, has strong links with young people in the Wet Tropics community and sees themselves as a future leader.

Chair Keith Noble said Terrain NRM’s seven-member board wanted to both develop future leadership potential and increase its insight into youth perspectives on natural resource issues and priorities.

“Our community and the future of our region is dependent on clean water, healthy soils and biodiversity,’’ Mr Noble said.

“As part of our commitment to building capacity to protect these assets for our communities, we want to develop future leadership potential.

“This is a rare opportunity for someone with aspirations to be a board director. By participating in our board meetings the successful applicant will be exposed to the board process in a leading not-for-profit organisation and learn about governance. They will also be able to establish valuable contacts and networks for their future career.”

“As a board we are looking to diversify our perspectives and skills by appointing someone who can provide insight into the views and issues of young people with regards to natural resource management in the Wet Tropics,” he said.

The successful candidate will be paid to attend board meetings, and will be a resident of the Wet Tropics, a diverse area that extends from Ingham in the south to the Tablelands in the west and Bloomfield in the north.
