National Agriculture Day – Innisfail

November 19, 2019

The Cassowary Coast's rich and diverse agriculture industry will be on show in Innisfail's Anzac Park this Thursday.

People of all ages and industries are invited to network and celebrate the local farming and agriculture industry between 10am and 2pm.

As the region’s biggest employer, agriculture is a vital part of the Cassowary Coast. It contributes more than $450 million each year to the local economy.

Lucky door prizes will be up for grabs at the event, including a double pass for a Snapping Tours Croc and Wildlife tour, a 2-for-1 voucher for a Frankland Island cruise and a family pass for a Fruit Forest Farm tour in Mission Beach. Next-generation farmers will also be excited to see a pedal-operated John Deere front-loader in the prize pool.

The Johnstone River Catchment Association will have native trees for $2 each on the day for revegetation projects on properties.

The Wet Tropics Major Integrated Project Johnstone Basin Coordinator Sandra Henrich said the event will provide great networking opportunities for local farmers and the wider community.

"The National Agriculture Day will highlight the achievements, opportunities and challenges within our local agriculture industries,’’ Ms Henrich said.  "There will be experts in agribusiness and extension officers on site to offer free advice.

“Everyone is welcome to come along and celebrate the remarkable contribution of the agriculture industry to this region, and to enjoy a free BBQ lunch.”
