Learning more about soil health

August 6, 2018

A biodynamic garlic farm helped to set the scene for a soil health tour on the Tablelands recently.

Fruit and vegetable growers learned how Adam Collins grows diverse winter and summer cover crops to improve soil health when they visited the Collins’s property during the workshop led by ecologist and farmer Dr Wendy Seabrook.

Natural resource management organisation Terrain NRM brought Learning for Nature’s Dr Seabrook to the Wet Tropics for the event, which was held in Ravenshoe and funded through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

Terrain NRM’s Regional Landcare Facilitator Jenny Redway said participants from the Tablelands and Gordonvale learned methods to fortify soil health and increase their soil’s microbiology, including techniques using plants to increase the biomass and diversity of soil organisms
