New Emerging Leader on Terrain NRM Board

June 25, 2019

A passion for the Far North’s natural assets and their links with tourism has inspired Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort’s Megan Kadic to join the Terrain NRM Board as its ‘Emerging Leader’.

Ms Kadic will be an advocate for the younger generation in board meetings during a one-year mentoring program to develop future leaders in natural resource management.

The Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort’s Director of Sales said she would also be exploring connections between tourism and Terrain NRM’s work within the Wet Tropics community ensuring sustainable use of the region’s land and waterways.

“The major industries that make our region prosperous - from tourism to agriculture and mining - are reliant on our natural resources and most of us in the Far North spend our recreational hours enjoying the natural environment,’’ she said.

“On a personal level I’d like to learn more about natural resource management and how we can all contribute to the challenges of the future. This is also a great opportunity to gain experience on a board and share a youth perspective.”

Terrain NRM Board chair Keith Noble said the Emerging Leader role, which was now in its second year, was an important way for the board to gain fresh perspectives while helping future leaders to strengthen their career paths.

“There is a lot of untapped leadership potential in our region,’’ he said.  “This program has given us an awareness of just how much millennials value the society and environment we all live in and are looking for ways to make a contribution.”

Terrain NRM is a not-for-profit organisation that works with the community to deliver environmental and agricultural projects.

Ms Kadic said growing up in Port Douglas and Cairns, and spending time away studying and working in Brisbane, had given her a deep appreciation for the Far North. She returned to Cairns one year ago, continuing her career with Accor.

“I’m really excited to be able to contribute to the region through this new appointment, learn from board members and take myself on a leadership journey as well,’’ she said.
