Chair
A descendant of the Djabugay speaking people of Cairns hinterland, Barry has 30 years experience in Aboriginal affairs around cultural and natural resource management. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science and a career that has spanned across a broad range of roles in Government, mining and exploration industry and not–for-profits. He has also consulted on Aboriginal Land management, Carbon Industry and community economic development.

Pete Faulkner

Best known as an economist in his role as a partner with Conus Business Consultancy Services, Pete is also passionate about marine conservation. He has been involved in reef monitoring efforts for almost four decades and was a past Chair of Reef Check Australia. He currently sits on a number of other Boards including Australian Chocolate.

Lucy Friend

As an environmental scientist, Lucy has worked in Environmental Management since completing university in 2015 and is currently North Queensland Airport’s Environmental Manager (Cairns & Mackay Airports). She is a graduate of Terrain’s ‘Emerging Leader’ board director mentorship program and actively involved as a volunteer for several community organisations.

Duncan Paterson

Originally from Innisfail, Duncan is currently the Director of Investor Practice at the Investor Group on Climate Change. He has worked in the field of responsible investment for over 25 years, both in Australia and overseas.He has been advising Terrain NRM on the development of Cassowary Credits, one of the world's first biodiversity credit schemes.

Gabrielle is an environmental consultant and co-founder of several companies providing services in the field of ecology, carbon, and regenerative economies. Gabrielle's MSc in ecology, and specialisation in remote sensing is complemented by eight years in environmental evaluation in Cairns and Cape York. Her diverse project base has her regularly working with First Nations groups, NGOs, corporate business, rural landowners, and government.

Dr Noel Preece

Noel is an ecologist, environmental consultant and Adjunct Associate Professor with James Cook University and Charles Darwin University. He has worked as a ranger, researcher and landscape restoration practitioner in northern Australia for over 30 years and has published over 200 technical reports and scientific papers. He is also a beef cattle farmer and carbon forest grower.

She was previously a lecturer in environmental management at JCU and an expert reviewer of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report and an advisor on increasing climate adaptation investment in Australia. She was a member of the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative and contributed to Australia’s first sustainable finance roadmap.

Kara is a leader in agricultural innovation and digital transformation. As a consultant at James Cook University, she has developed world-first programs like AgValuate, bridging cutting-edge technology with practical applications for producers. She serves on the Freshcare Industry Collaboration and Advisory Committee, as well as local committees in the Wet Tropics region. Kara is also a fourth-generation organic banana farmer.Â
