NUTURING FUTURE LEADERS IN NRM

THE PROGRAM

In 2017 Terrain NRM created a new one year mentoring program designed to nuture future leaders in the NRM sector and increase our Board’s insights into youth perspectives on natural resource management issues and priorities.

The program provides a rare opportunity for young people with board director aspirations to participate in board meetings and be exposed to the board process in a leading not for profit organisation. Successful candidates learn about governance and establish valuable contacts and networks to help them in their careers.

Emerging Leaders are paid to attend quarterly board meetings.

PREVIOUS EMERGING LEADERS

2018 – Rhiannon Simcocks

2019 – Megan Kadic

2020 – Hulton King

2021 – Lucy Friend

2022 – Kara-Glenn Worth

2023 – Daniela Matheus-Holland

Our first Emerging Leader was Rhiannon Simcocks who has since gone on to become one of our Board Directors.

Rhiannon said it was inspiring to work in an area she was passionate about, and in a boardroom full of enthusiasm about learning from the next generation.

“It was such a positive experience – and just as invaluable for me to learn more about natural resource management, make connections outside my usual professional circles and be involved in an organisation operating at such a professional and strategic level.’’
