Terrain on Best Places to Work List

AFR/BOSS MAGAZINE BEST PLACES TO WORK LIST 2022

27 APRIL 2021

Terrain NRM has been named one of Australia and New Zealand’s best places to work.

The environmental management organisation was the only North Queensland organisation listed in the Australian Financial Review and Boss Magazine top-100 for 2022, and ranked ninth in the government, education and not-for-profit category.

Terrain NRM CEO Stewart Christie said he and the organisation’s 53 other employees were thrilled to have been recognised at a national level for the second time in a month, after recently being named a finalist in the Banksia Sustainability Awards.

“With over 750 organisations nominated, it’s a real honour to be selected and to be among the likes of Unilever, ANZ, Blackmores and Kathmandu,’’ Mr Christie said.

“We love what we do, working with all our partners in one of the most beautiful and environmentally important places on the planet, solving soil, waterway health, climate and biodiversity challenges.

“There is a true passion and sense of purpose that flows right through the organisation. But it also comes down to having a supportive work culture, and that’s something we pride ourselves on too.”

Organisations were assessed across categories including flexibility, equality, wellbeing, purpose and productivity, and a staff survey was part of the process.

Mr Christie said Terrain’s flexible working arrangements – from working from home agreements, part-time options and a wide range of leave entitlements – were highly valued by employees.

“We work really hard to maintain a people-centred culture at Terrain and our staff consistently rate the workplace flexibility, culture and leadership as key reasons they enjoy working here,” he said.

“Offering a great workplace helps to attract top-quality talent and support high-performing teams.”

Australian consultancy Inventium assessed nominations based on a Workplaces of the Future framework identifying 10 key factors needed for employees to feel motivated and engaged at work.

“We have undertaken extensive research into what truly makes a brilliant workplace, and we are thrilled to recognise many organisations who are leading the way with innovative practices that drive key elements such as flexibility, wellbeing and equality,” founder Dr Amantha Imber said.
