Overview

This project is undertaking major on-ground streambank remediation works at two sites in the Herbert River and Stone River near Ingham. The target is to reduce approximately 3860t/yr of fine sediment from flowing to the Great Barrier Reef.

Background

The Herbert catchment is a top-three priority catchment for sediment reduction in Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef zone. Sediment is one of the major pollutants affecting the Reef.

Solutions

Environmentally engineered solutions are being designed to fit the unique requirements of each site. They include:

• Earthworks to reshape erosion hotspots
• Revegetation
• Bank toe reinforcement
• Pile Field construction
• Rootball insertion

Solutions are designed to halt further erosion and provide habitat for fish and other wildlife.
